From a feature story by "Uncle Lew" in the Syracuse-Wawasee Journal of the 1930 era:
"Elmer was...like other babies in those days. he wore red flannel dresses, had his share of paregoric and worm candy...in September 1900 he broke the ground for the fourth brick block in Syracuse...ou could buy anything in the hardware line from a sewing machine needle to a grain threshing outfit."
Elmer was president of the local school board when a new building was erected in 1908, aided in securing funds for the Syracuse Public Library, and served in various other civic enterprises.
Elmer married Ida Ellen WRIGHT, daughter of Oliver WRIGHT and Sarah Jane DILLON, on 3 MAR 1889 in Kosciusko Co, Indiana. Ida was born on 1 OCT 1871 in Leesburg, Indiana. She died on 13 JUL 1942 in Cass Co, Indiana.
