Joel STRIEBY (William, John, Hans Michael) was born in 1840 in Kosciusko Co, Indiana. He died in 1925 in Clinton, Henry Co, Missouri.

Joel was a member of Company E, 12th Indiana Infantry, during the Civil War, enlisting May 7, 1861. Soon after marriage, the family moved to Michigan for a few years before going, in 1871, to make their home near Calhoun, Missouri, not far from the home of his Uncle John Streeby. In later years the family moved to Clinton, the county seat. The children and grandchildren remember their grandfather as a tall, handsome man with snappy black eyes; they loved to hear the family traditions "stretching" from Pennsylvania to Indiana through Ohio and especially of the farm home of William and Elizabeth with its spring house and brick building for drying fruit. Joel visited his mother shortly before her death in 1895 and he and his wife attended a Strieby family reunion in Indiana before the onset of World War I.

Joel married Melvina NORRIS, daughter of Joseph NORRIS and Elizabeth KNOX, on 21 DEC 1865. Melvina was born in 1842 in Indiana. She died in 1920 in Clinton, Henry Co, Missouri.

They had the following children:

+ M i Ulysses Grant STRIEBY M. D. was born on 10 JUL 1866 and died on 24 DEC 1921.
+ F ii Minnie L STRIEBY was born on 5 AUG 1867 and died on 3 NOV 1960.
