Andrew and Sarah Jane celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Tuesday, September 19, 1911. They lived in Ligoneer, Indiana during the 1860's where most of their children were born. A lengthy obituary of Andrew Strieby appeared in the Syracuse-Wawasee Journal at the time of his death in 1919. The following is an excerpt:
"...He filled honestly, efficiently, and to the entire satisfaction of his fellow citizens many important places of trust and honesty. Always having a deep interest in schools, he was made school director and township trustee. He was the administrator of the many estates and acted as guardian for children, as well as for those unable to care for themselves. For many years he was one of the directors of the State Bank of Syracuse... He was and ardent supporter of the church and all its activities. Without any disparagement to the men and women of Turkey Creek Township who survive the deceased, it can be said truthfully that Andrew Strieby was our first citizen."
Andrew married (1) Elizabeth PHEBUS on 22 OCT 1857 in Kosciusko Co, Indiana. Elizabeth was born on 21 DEC 1843 in Kosciusko Co, Indiana. She died on 22 AUG 1860 in Kosciusko Co, Indiana.
