Edward C STREEPY (Johann Georg, Hans Michael) was born on 13 APR 1801 in Fayette Co, Pennsylvania. He died on 15 JUN 1895 in Appanoose Co, Iowa and was buried in Eaton Cemetery, Udell Twp, Appanoose Co, Iowa.
Edward Streepy (dropping the "e" in his name) apparently chose not to follow in the profession of clockmaker, and instead opted for the life of a farmer. He is found in the 1830 and 1840 census in Daviess Co, Indiana. On July 24, 1824 he married Delilah Freeland in Daviess Co.
There were thirteen children of this marriage, all born in Daviess Co. The family apparently relocated to Knox Co, Indiana in 1836. It is unclear as to whether Delilah died in Daviess Co or Knox Co. In 1848 Edward married Elizabeth McCormack, probably in Knox Co.
Around 1853, Edward relocated to Appanoose Co, Iowa and settled near Unionville, where he lived until his death in 1895. The trip from Knox Co, Indiana to Appanoose Co, Iowa took three weeks. A pioneer story about his son Edward recounts that their team of horses died on the trip from eating bad grain and had to be replaced by a team of oxen at a cost of sixty-five dollars.
On arriving in Appanoose Co, Edward bought 30 acres of land northwest of what is now Udell, at a cost of twenty-five dollars per acre, which was considered a good price to pay at that time. The property included a frame house, one of the few frame houses in the entire county. There was no town at Udell at that time. The original frame house survived many years and the farm property remained in the Streepy name for many years.
The area in Appanoose Co where a number of the Streepy families lived and farmed at one time included a "crossroads hamlet" with postoffice called "Streepyville."
